U.S. wholesale prices move up

Consumer Confidence Index jumps to 70.4 in February

Penny balanced on end on a chartThe Conference Board Consumer Confidence Index moved from 64.8 in January to 70.4 in February, hitting a three-year high. According to Lynn Franco, director of the board's Consumer Research Center, there is "growing optimism about the short-term future."

She also said, "Looking ahead, consumers are more positive about the economy and their income prospects, but feel somewhat mixed about employment conditions."

GDP annual growth rate slows

compass on top of financial sectionCommerce Department information released in February shows the U.S. annual economic growth didn't reach the initial estimate of 3.2 percent. State and local governments cut spending much deeper than anticipated, which contributed to the lower growth rate.

Despite the lower-than-expected pace for 2010, the annual rate of growth was 2.8 percent, the most in five years.

Canada trade deficit up

coins scattered on financial chartsIn its Feb. 11 report, the U.S. Census Bureau reported the Canada trade deficit for goods increased from $21.6 billion in 2009 to $27.7 billion in 2010.

Exports increased $44.2 billion, primarily in automobiles, parts and accessories, while imports increased $50.2 billion, primarily in passenger cars and crude oil.

A Place Reddaway Calls Home

Spokane, Wash.

Spokane highlighted on Washington map, sites of interestJust 40 miles from the Spokane International Airport, Coeur d'Alene draws many to the region. Its rich history dates back to the days of French fur traders and Native Americans. Today, it's better known for the beauty of its lake, surrounding hills and fine resorts, earning it the title of Wedding Capital of the Pacific Northwest.

Despite all the area's beauty and romance, for more than 200,000 basketball players and their fans, the real action is found at Spokane's Hoopfest!

Hoopfest is the world's largest 3-on-3 street basketball tournament. More than 6,700 teams compete on 428 courts spanning 40 downtown city blocks. College superstars, moms and dads, and their sons and daughters all compete for the title of Hoopfest Champion. As if there could possibly be more to life than basketball, Hoopfest also features concerts, shopping, food, and interactive entertainments. But why just read about Hoopfest? Team registration is now open for the June 25–26 event!

Reddaway has called Spokane home since the late 1980s. Today, Reddaway operates a 61-dock door service center and is the network's gateway for deliveries destined for Central and Eastern Canada.

"We also offer extensive next-day service throughout the northern part of the region," says Spokane Service Center Manager Stan Haynes, adding that its next-day lanes reach 500+ miles. "And our local pickup and delivery area is huge. We go about 110 miles south to Lewiston and about that same distance north into Southern British Columbia."

"We have a great team here, with very little turnover," Stan adds. "Nineteen of our drivers have achieved the safety milestone of 1 million miles without a preventable accident, and five drivers have reached the 2-million mile marker. That's more than any other service center in the Reddaway network, and a reflection on the tenure and safe driving skills of our team in a part of the country known for mountains and winter conditions." Stan also praises the Spokane maintenance shop which keeps equipment safe and operational for several Reddaway service centers in the north-central section of the network.
